Viagogo has expanded in the past five years to become the largest exchange in Europe for buying and selling tickets. It deals in tickets for all types of events, particularly music concerts and sports events at venues across the UK and the rest of Europe. Some discount vouchers offer a 5 per cent discount with Viagogo to go to these events.
The concept allows buyers and sellers of tickets to meet online, rather than outside stadia as was the case traditionally with black market ticket transactions. Viagogo guarantees these transactions through ticket tracking and live customer service support. These services are included on ticket purchases with discount codes at Viagogo.
The company therefore acts as an intermediary making sure the seller gets paid and the buyer receives the ticket in time for the event. Often a discount voucher will offer a percentage discount on specific concerts or matches.
The company was set up by Eric Baker who also started a similar concept, Stubhub, in the USA. He set up Viagogo in the summer of 2006 following agreements with Chelsea and Manchester United to resell unused seats from season tickets with the clubs' permission.
These agreements have since expanded to other clubs in the UK and Europe including Aston Villa and Bayern Munich. The company also serves as the official ticketing partner of World Wrestling Entertainment.
