As one of the biggest sports retailers in the UK, JJB Sports was the brainchild of former footballer and the owner of Wigan Athletic, Dave Whelan. From humble beginnings in 1971 with just one shop in the centre of Wigan, the chain has since grown and now operates hundreds of stores and employing nearly 10,000 people.
However, the recession means its presence is set to be drastically reduced amid plans for the closure of 95 stores. The remainder has been rebranded following a redesign of the company logo, which remains blue and white but is now set inside a square as opposed to the previous oval.
Many JJB Sports outlets are in out-of-town shopping centres, offering a large range of sports equipment from top brands including Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Umbro. Large reductions are available in-store and online at JJB Sports for those using a discount voucher.
The larger stores also stock sports hardware such as treadmills, punch bags and other exercise equipment for a range of activities. These JJB Sports items are also included in some offers with discount codes, many of which give up to 20 per cent off any purchase in store. Other deals can be found on the JJB Sports website, including discount vouchers for free home delivery when the customer spends over a certain value.
