The first Best Buy shop opened under the name Sound of Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1966. The rapidly growing American company became the world's first laserdisc and video equipment supplier in 1979, and was officially renamed Best Buy in 1983. Best Buy has become most successful electronic chains in the United States and now claims 21 per cent of the North American electronics market.
Best Buy bought 50 per cent of the United Kingdom mobile telephone company Carphone Warehouse and the two companies formed Best Buy Europe. In 2010, Best Buy opened its first United Kingdom shop in Thurrock, Essex, and 10 more followed within the next couple of years.
Unfortunately, Best Buy could not repeat its North American success in the United Kingdom and all Best Buy United Kingdom outlets are expected to close by early 2012. There has never been a better time, however, to use a Best Buy discount voucher to purchase the company's remaining inventory at rock bottom prices.
Best Buy will also offer refunds on all Best Buy discount codes not redeemed by the time shops close down and all products purchased with Best Buy discount vouchers prior to shop closures will still be delivered as originally scheduled. Service plans purchased at Best Buy and insured by Aviva will be unaffected by the closure.
Products must have been purchased prior to 26 November 2011 in order to be returned, but faulty products can still be exchanged within 30 days of their original date of purchase. Trade in services are no longer offered at Best Buy.
