Established under the umbrella of Sir Richard Branson's iconic Virgin Group, Virgin Holidays was set up in 1985, just one year after Virgin Atlantic took to the skies. The original purpose was to provide the airline's passengers with seats on transatlantic flights to destinations including Orlando, Miami and New York. Since it was formed, Virgin Holidays has grown rapidly into one of the UK's largest tour operators providing access to global long-haul destinations.
The company is run out of The Office', the headquarters of Virgin Atlantic in Crawley, West Sussex. Discount vouchers can now be used to book holidays around the world in destinations such as Australia, the South Pacific, India, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and America.
The company continues to expand, and in 2008, after the collapse of XL Travel Group, Virgin Holidays took over Travel City Direct which has since been re-launched and specialises in organising holidays to the Caribbean, Las Vegas and Florida.
Earlier that year, Virgin agreed to a tie-up with HIP Hotels which means that customers can use discount codes to gain greater access to some of the world's trendiest boutique hotels. At the end of 2009, Virgin made the announcement that it had bought Bales Worldwide, an independent operator.
Discount vouchers can currently be used at more than 100 concession outlets around the country, and by the end of the year Virgin intends to have more than 200 shops set up across the UK.
