Supermarket giant Asda has responded to claims by admitting that its tough policy on alcohol sales ‘seems mad’ following revelations that staff refused to serve a 44-year-old mother who was shopping with her teenage son.
Asda says that the policy protects staff from being fined for serving underage drinkers.

Inflation soars to 1.9 per cent

It has been revealed that the increasing cost of petrol sent inflation heading skywards for the second month in a row for the month of November.
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) went up to 1.9 per cent in November from 1.5 per cent the month before, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The UK’s most and least family friendly brands have been named and shamed in a study which ranks the country’s best-known and biggest brands.
The company which has seen to be doing the least to promote family values was Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair, according to the FamilyBrands poll.

Interest rate drop leads to rise in household income

In April, UK household incomes rose for the first time since January, which indicates that consumer budgets are being positively affected by lower interest rates.
On average, households were £3 a week better off during the month than in April of 2008, according to ASDA’s Income Tracker.
