George Bush memoir a best seller
by Paul Russell
The memoir of George Bush looks like it is on track to become one of the bestselling books in the UK according to experts in the book trade.
Despite a string of unflattering comments about the British by the ex-president, experts say that the book is still set to achieve high sales figure.
Mr Bush’s memoir was released yesterday, and already the book has climbed to number 11 on the amazon.co.uk’s list of bestselling books. Book sellers say that early sales of the book have been strong.
A Waterson’s spokesman, George Howells, said that George Bush’s role as US President during a very key period of time that greatly impacted Britain cannot be overlooked. Mr Howells said that those who have an interest in politics will love this book no matter what your personal feelings toward Bush are.
Howells added that people are grappling to understand to understand our contemporary history, and these books by key political figures simply add another piece to the unfolding puzzle for people.
Iain Dale, a political publisher and blogger, said that Bush’s book was expected to sell at least 50,000 copies in the UK alone.
Dale felt that despite Bush’s unpopularity in the UK, people were still interested to know his thoughts and views. Dale added that there is always a lot of scepticism over the ability of politicians to sell copies of their memoirs, citing the recent example of Tony Blair’s memoir. Dale points to the fact that more than 250,000 people bought a copy of the book, despite sceptics saying that no one would purchase Blair’s book due to the Iraq War.
Bush’s memoirs are expected to sell more than 1.5 million copies throughout the USA alone.
