Sussex golf course body identified
by Sally Davies
The burned body found on a Sussex area golf course has been identified as that of a 37-year-old male, according to local authorities. The body of Stefan Welch was found by golfers playing on the Dyke Golf Club course on Saturday, although the corpse was so badly burned that police were unable to determine the identity of the deceased until a DNA sample was sent to a lab for analysis. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death, but believe it was most likely a result of a head injury.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles, of Sussex Police major crime branch, Mr Welch was the victim of a horrifyingly violent attack, and the killer went to extraordinary lengths to cover up the crime. He went on to say that the chances are very high that the individual who committed this heinous act would have had some traces of the incident left on their person, and that anyone with knowledge of the attack should share the information with police.
Police noted that Mr Welch was not only burned, his body was also covered in blood. They believe that the man had been murdered in another location sometime between Wednesday and Saturday, and then transported to the golf course where he was found Saturday morning.
