Capello says Rooney to play
by Paul Russell
Fabio Capello, manager of the England football club, has announced that star player Wayne Rooney will be on the pitch during the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland. There has been speculation that Rooney would not be asked to join the team for the match, as rumours have been circulating for the past few weeks in tabloids around the UK that allege he hired a prostitute while his wife Colleen was pregnant with their son.
Mr Capello said during a news conference that his club is focused on the game of football, not on the private lives of the players. He went on to add that the main focus of the team is to train hard and perform as well as possible during the qualifiers.
Stephen Gerrard, team captain for the Three Lions, said that although Rooney may have issues that he is dealing with off the pitch, he doesn’t think they will prevent him from playing according to top form. He also said that Rooney is a world-class footballer, and always comes out with big performances during crucial times.
Rooney, although not to form during the World Cup games in South Africa, played well during the Euro qualifier against Bulgaria on Friday. The UK club won the match 4 to 0.
