Blair cancels Waterstone’s book signing
by Adam Richards
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has cancelled a book signing session at a Waterstone’s in London due to fears that protestors could be too disruptive during the event. The announcement comes on the heels of a book signing event last weekend at a Waterstone’s in Dublin, which saw eggs and shoes thrown at the former PM. Mr Blair is currently promoting his recently released autobiography, A Journey, in which he depicts the time he spent in 10 Downing Street as leader of the UK.
According to Mr Blair, he does not want to put a strain on the Metropolitan Police resources, even though he knows that they would do a fine job if they needed to provide security and protection during the book signing event. He went on to add that he is sorry to those who looked forward to meeting him and getting their copy of his book signed at Waterstone’s.
Waterstone’s managing director Dominic Myers said that his company’s job is to bring books to its customers around the country, and if given the chance, allow fans to meet the authors, although in this case a small minority of troublemakers has prevented the author from appearing in person at the store. He went on to say that Mr Blair’s book is the fast-selling autobiography in Waterstone’s history.
