iPad helps spur Currys sales
by Paul Russell
The iPad has helped spur sales at Currys and PC World in shops around the UK, which enabled DSG International to meet its financial expectations for the first quarter. The firm saw a like-for-like sales increase by six per cent during the period, as sales of Apple’s newest release as well as a 40 per cent rise in large-screen TVs helped to increase the electronics giant’s market share by a small margin.
According to DSG chief executive John Browett, the recent performance of his firm shows that DSG has taken great strides to improve its standing in the market, and expects further success throughout the year and beyond. He went on to add that although current recessionary conditions may still be adversely affecting consumer spending throughout the UK, DSG will continue to work towards positive corporate growth in all of its stores.
DSG saw sales at its locations which have been open for over 12 months or more increase by three per cent in the three months to 24 July, which was on pace with the forecasts of two to four per cent growth made by financial analysts. The firm is currently in the midst of a turnaround plan which includes cost-cutting initiatives, an increase in variety among its many product lines, and improvements in customer service.
