Chandelier sales skyrocket at Debenhams
by Adam Richards
Debenhams, the high street retailer with shops throughout the UK, has announced that sales of chandeliers have skyrocketed over the past two years, in direct contrast to what analysts predicted during the gloomy economic conditions seen throughout the country. The retail giant reported that sales of the highly ornate home accessories have been steadily increasing, with sales reaching their apex earlier this week.
Debenhams spokesperson Ed Watson said while economists are looking for the light at the end of the recessionary tunnel, consumers have chosen to stop searching for the light and simply have it installed over their heads. He went on to add that although the economic forecast in the UK may appear dark, there is plenty of light in the front rooms of an increasing number of UK homes.
The firm reported that the most popular chandeliers are smaller replicas of those seen in larger homes throughout England, since many homeowners may not have enough room to accommodate the larger pieces. The range of styles runs the gamut in terms of taste, as both modern and traditional chandeliers have shown to be equally popular, with the majority sold having dimensions of three feet wide and three feet deep. Prices can vary as well, with the low-end chandeliers running about £30, with the more expensive models costing well over £300.
