Arsenal footballer arrested in London
by Paul Russell
Arsenal footballer Jack Wilshere was arrested in London on Sunday morning, as a result of being involved in an incident which Metropolitan Police labelled as a fracas on Kensington Street. Wilshire, 18, highly regarded as one of the leading young players in the Premiere League, has played in all three Arsenal matches this season after making his debut for the England club last month in a friendly against Hungary.
According to a spokesperson for the Met, police were called to the scene after receiving reports of an assault, and upon arrival found two injured individuals, a man with lacerations on his face and a woman with a broken elbow. The spokesperson went on to say that both were treated by emergency response technicians, and their injuries were not life-threatening.
Mr Wilshere was not available for comments, although a statement was made for him by a representative. According to the statement, Mr Wilshere was merely acting as a peacekeeper during the alleged incident, and was released on bail shortly after his arrest. The representative went on to say that Mr Wilshere is ready and willing to assist the police in any way he can in order to help their investigation regarding the incident.
