Debenhams sales of office furniture implies more people working from home
by Adam Richards
Debenhams has announced that it has significantly increased the amount of home office furniture sold at its stores around the UK, leading the retail giant to believe that an increasing number of people are working from home. The company released data which showed a whopping 340 per cent increase in sales for home office furniture and equipment during the past year, which coincides with UK Government statistics which show many Britons are choosing to go into business for themselves as part of their attempts to combat the current recession.
According to Carie Barkhuizen, spokesperson for Debenhams, the data gathered by her company shows that thousands of Britons who have lost their jobs during the past few years have taken it upon themselves to start their own businesses, hence the increased demand for home office furniture. She went on to say that while being made redundant is never something one wishes for, it may be the necessary evil needed to give people the motivation to start their own businesses.
A few of the top selling items during the sales increase at Debenhams include triangular-shaped work stations and small, glass-top desks, according to company sales records. Other popular items include compact book shelves, filing cabinets, and leather office chairs.
