UK retailers predict top Christmas toys
by Adam Richards
Toy sellers throughout the UK have predicted what they think will be the top selling toys during the 2010 Christmas holidays, with Hamleys claiming that Stinky the Garbage Truck may be the number-one seller, perhaps to the chagrin of many parents. The electronic toy sings, dances, and is smelly enough to keep children entertained and laughing for hours on end.
According to Grant Yuill from Hamleys, there are a wide variety of favourites for this year’s toy-spending bonanza, with sales of construction toys up 50 per cent, led by Lego and Meccano. He went on to say that Buzz Lightyear is also a favourite again this year, as Pixar’s newest Toy Story movie, Toy Story 3, is entertaining children in theatre’s around the country, ultimately encouraging them to buy everything Buzz-related. Mr Yuill also said that the new and improved Buzz has his own jet-pack, is stocked with lights and buzzers, and is sure to fly off the shelves.
One of the most expensive toys this year is a £1,500 model of a Mercedes Benz auto, elegantly encrusted with crystal. If you don’t want to spend that much money on a model car, the GOGO Pets may be a viable alternative, according to Mr Yuill. These popular toys have been re-branded as Zhu Zhu pets, and not only do the new ones talk and move as their predecessors did, they also fight with each other.
