As many as 500 jobs are expected to result from the expansion of one of Edinburgh’s main shopping centres, according to a report in The Scotsman.
The Cameron Toll shopping complex is about to undergo a £25 million expansion progamme, according to the Irish investment fund which acquired the property last year.
A second anchor store will be added to the shopping centre, which is located in the south of the capital city. A Sainsbury’s superstore is already a feature of the site.
In the expansion, ten retail shops will be added, as will six restaurants, a rooftop dining area and a five-screen cinema.
The owners are hopeful that the work will commence later this year, subject to the required planning permissions, and then be completed within 18 months.
It is expected that the expansion of Cameron Toll will be a major boost to the retail sector in Edinburgh and follows the approval of the St James Centre overhaul.
Several years ago, a £21 million expansion scheme for Cameron Toll was approved, but not realized as the property changed ownership a number of times. In that plan, a private health club was featured, as were a two-storey department store and four smaller retail shops.
Dublin-based Warren Private Finance, the Irish investment fund manager, announced the plans. The Irish syndicate acquired Cameron Toll early last year for over £80 million.
