Lenny Henry set to see air time on BBC One

by Katie Naylor

Lenny Henry’s radio show Rudy’s Rare Records may have a series on BBC One. The sitcom heard on Radio 4 inched closer to becoming a TV show after Henry took part in a read-through for the television network.

The transition from radio to TV by other radio broadcasts, particularly Miranda which airs on BBC2, has made the BBC eager to do the same for other successful radio shows. If the plan goes through, Henry will keep his role as Rudy Sharpe, the owner of a Birmingham record-shop.

Already in line for some TV appearances, Henry is learning to sing for his appearance on First Love, a new Sky TV show which has celebrities living out their fantasies. Henry is studying classical soul and blues in preparation for his appearance.

Lenny has also appeared in TV commercials for Premier Inn, where he re-enacted a scene from The Shining, the famous horror film that stars and ax-wielding Jack Nicholson.

The commercial parody of the movie received complaints from the Advertising Standards Authority, who claimed that it was not an appropriate advert for children’s programming. The ad appeared on Nick Jr, and an ASA spokesperson stated that the content could be potentially scary to younger viewers, who were not likely to realise the comedic undertones since they had not seen the movie.
