Hertz expands try before you buy scheme
by Paul Russell
Hertz car rental has announced that it will be expanding its Rent2Buy programme, allowing consumers to rent the vehicle that they intend to buy.
The scheme is an online car sales programme, which gives travellers the opportunity to reserve a hire car that they intend to buy for a three-day test drive. Used car buyers can visit the Hertz website and choose the car at their nearest rental centre. Potential buyers will have use of the car for up to three days, and if they like the car, they can purchase the vehicle.
In order to purchase the car, the customer maintains possession of the car and pays the price without the need for haggling with a salesman. Also if the customer chooses to buy the car, the three day rental fee is waived. If the customer does not choose to purchase the car, then it is simply returned to its rental location and the customer will pay about $49 per day.
Executive Vice President of Global Supply China management for Hertz, John Thomas said that the economy was beginning to recover and travellers had been relatively cautious about major purchases like cars. Ever since the beginning of the Hertz Rent2Buy scheme, they have sold hundreds of cars online.
