Kidnapped boy found safe and well in Pakistan
by Harry Oldfield
A young British boy kidnapped while he was on holiday in Pakistan almost two weeks ago has been found safe and well according to the British High Commission.
Sahil Saeed, aged five, was taken from a house in the Punjab region of Pakistan on March 4 after robbers held his family at gunpoint.
The British High Commission in Islamabad said that earlier today he had been released and was safe, while describing his recovery as fantastic news.
High Commissioner Adam Thomson said that it brought an end to the traumatic ordeal faced by the boy’s family.
He offered praise to the high level of co-operation between the UK and Pakistani authorities and in particular the Jhelum police for their role in bringing about the safe return of Sahil.
Officials from the Foreign Office said that they were unable to provide any further details about the boy’s release.
Sahil, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, was on holiday with his father in Pakistan when he was kidnapped.
Raiders struck as the pair were getting ready to take a taxi to the airport for their flight back to the UK.
The snatchers originally set a deadline of noon the following day for a ransom worth £100,000 to be delivered. After the boy was taken, several men including a taxi driver were arrested.
