Mother of James Bulger demands justice
by Adam Richards
The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has demanded that the killers of her son must face justice despite fears that he may escape charges of alleged possession of child pornography.
Denise Fergus said that the apparent breach of license by Jon Venables could not be swept under the rug by the Government and that any suspected crime he committed should be brought to trial.
She spoke after claims that Venables may not face court due to concerns that he could not have a fair and impartial trial, and that he would have to be granted a new identity at a cost of more than £250,000 to the taxpayer.
James Mother, Denise Fergus, who has been constantly calling upon Justice Secretary, Jack Straw, to make public the details of the recall of Venables to prison, said yesterday that justice must be seen to be done.
A spokesman for Mrs Fergus said that she had been concerned from the outset that there may be attempts to sweep it under the carpet and have it dealt by the parole board in secret.
The spokesman went on to say that the Justice Secretary had spoken of Venables as being suspected of a very serious offence and that there was evidence that he should be brought before a court.
They should not make any exception on the grounds of cost or protecting his anonymity if he has committed a serious crime as an adult, he must be dealt with in an open court on that basis, said the spokesman.
