Bournemouth best place to go for a local holiday
by Adam Richards
The Dorset town of Bournemouth is celebrating taking out the top spot for ‘staycationers’ as the UK’s most holiday-friendly place.
Bournemouth came out at number one spot of 66 popular UK getaways, according to a survey by Virgin Money Travel Insurance.
In spite of the wet conditions in July, travel abroad by Britons fell by 12 percent this year.
Bournemouth was chosen as a hotspot as it scored well on a number of key holiday demands.
These included weather, cost of a week’s stay, price and availability of restaurants, quality of beaches and the overall price and number of tourist attractions nearby.
Other coastal towns also scored well, with Brighton and Portsmouth in second and third position.
Scarborough and London were fourth and fifth respectively, as the capital did not fair so well as it does not have a beach.
.
Holiday destinations that featured the worst in the survey included Scotland’s Loch Ness, which scored bad due to inclement weather.
Director of tourism at Bournemouth Borough Council said that with their stuning gardens and seven miles of golden sandy beaches, Bournemouth had been no stranger to winning awards and they were delighted to have retained the distinction of Best UK resort.
