Deputy school head had sex with student
by Sally Davies
The female deputy head of a special school had sex with one of her students four times in the toilets of the British Library, a court has been told.
Schoolteacher Teresa McKenzie, 39, had an affair lasting 14 months with the boy when he was 16 and 17, the court heard.
She sent him letters found in a bag with condoms and KY Jelly, it has been alleged and phoned and emailed him at least 600 times.
It has also been said that McKenzie also told the boy’s mother that she loved him and would resign from her job.
McKenzie and the boy met when she commenced work at the Cheshire special school in February of 2006. Soon after, she became his key worker and he became infatuated with her.
Prosecutor Simon Mills said that an illicit relationship began which culminated in August 2008 when McKenzie had sex with the student in the toilets of the British Library.
The teenager, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, emotionally disturbed behaviour and oppositional defiant disorder, was on a holiday with his family in Kent. He was not enjoying it and his mother let him to go home to London to meet McKenzie.
Mr Mills said that McKenzie had been to see the boy the previous march when they had sex in the Cumberland Hotel. However, he said of the British Library, the second time they snuck into the disabled toilets on different floors and had penetrative sex four times.
McKenzie, of Meifod, Powys, told police that the letters found were in support of the teenager who was a very troubled young man. Mills has denied the seven counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.
