Police investigate identity of Glasgow flat deaths

by Paul Russell

Scottish police are working to establish the identities of two men and women after falling to their deaths from a high-rise block of flats in Glasgow.

Strathclyde Police said that the incident took place just after 8:45 am on Sunday at the Red Road flats complex in the city’s Springburn area.

Police said that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

Many of the flats were unoccupied as the local hosing agency was moving residents to new accommodation.

The bodies were discovered by a concierge at the tower block.

The Glasgow Housing Association said that the block at 63 Petershill Drive was currently let to the YMCA, who house asylum seekers and refugees seeking leave to remain.

The blocks are iconic in the Glasgow skyline, and there is a large police presence in the area that are canvassing people who live there to get more information as to the identities of the individuals.

Police are carrying out forensic tests at the scene were the bodies were located.

It is believed that the block involved houses a mixture of asylum seekers, refugees and other residents, but has been partially cleared in preparation for a demolition programme.

One resident in the block where the incident took place said that those involved had moved into the flats about two months ago, while yet another resident said it was understood they fell from the 15th floor.
