Andy Murray books Finals berth in Australian Open

by Sally Davies

Scottish tennis sensation Andy Murray has defeated Marin Cilic in the Australian, to book himself a spot in the Australian Open Final, and also becoming the UK’s first winner of the Australian Open since 1933.

Murray beat Cilic in 4 sets, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, however in a split second, the whole match changed.

Murray had played through the tournament without dropping a set, but in this game, he appeared passive and flat, playing behind the baseline and being punished for it.

But it didn’t take him long to find his form and began playing like a Grand Slam Champion, pushing a tired and dispirited Cilic from pillar to post with extraordinary backhands

After viewing a replay of his match-turning shot in the second set, and listening to his vocal reaction to it, Murray said that he never realised that his mouth was so big.

He went on to say that the shot was really important, and that the momentum really helped him forward from a point where he felt the game slipping away from him, after not making the most of every opportunity at the beginning of the match.
