ALDI is telling the 7.4 million families living in the UK that it can save them more than £170 million combined on their weekly grocery shopping, as the battle for the “cheapest supermarket basket” heats up.

Beginning on 16 April, the discounter reduced the prices on some of its most popular items, including numerous grocery products that are now available for just 99p each.

Recent research conducted by the discount grocery chain has revealed that families can save £23 or more on a £100 weekly shopping bill if they do their grocery shopping at ALDI, as compared with purchasing the same items at one of the “Big Four”.

The new savings are in addition to the reduced prices that ALDI has been offering on everyday essentials.

Prices reductions are being maintained on items such as cheeses, fruit juices, pasta salads and steak-cut chips, and also on household cleaning and personal care products. ALDI has said that it will continue offering the lower prices at its stores in the UK and Ireland as part of its commitment to long-term low pricing.
