TalkTalk announces job cuts
by Katie Naylor
TalkTalk, the Carphone Warehouse broadband provider, has announced that as part of a cost cutting exercise it will be axing around 580 jobs. TalkTalk currently employs some 4,500 people in the UK and the job cuts will affect 13 per cent of its workforce. The company said it would be making the reductions in administrative areas such as finance, IT and human resources.
The cuts are part of a restructuring plan being implemented by the firm’s chief executive, Dido Harding, who aims to improve TalkTalk’s quality of service by setting up a centralised support team. The areas in which jobs will be most affected include Preston, Manchester, Warrington and London. TalkTalk said it was aiming to keep redundancies for those dealing with customers to a minimum.
Harding said that the focus was on improving quality of service as well as streamlining efficiency. He added that to do this the company would be safeguarding roles in customer service and customer support.
TalkTalk has found itself in trouble with Ofcom recently because of complaints about its customer service. Since taking over Tiscali in the UK, there have been issues with mis-selling claims through its phone service and errors on customers’ bills.
Harding explained that an overhaul of the company was necessary after a period of rapid growth. The group has three separate businesses and the inevitable overlapping now needs to be addressed to create a company which is fit to move into the future, he added. The company said previously that it intends to switch its focus from customer growth to better product ranges and efficiency.

"I am sorry BUT what she is saying is contradicting what was said at work Wednesday. I am in Customer Relations, I have been for many years at TalkTalk. I enjoy my job, dealing with customers and resolving issues. Most of my job is resolving issues caused my other TalkTalk agents in other countries. I got told yesterday that my job to become redundant. TalkTalk need to get rid of the foriegn call centres, they cause so many issues resulting in increased refunds and compensation, they miss (for example) adding a boost to a plan to give free calls to Poland - 2 months later we (UK based agent) have to refund £500+ as the Polish but UK based customer calls Poland every day. Its wrong - it really is! And we are all left up the creek with bills to pay and not a word of thanks!"

"Carphone warehouse and talktalk are 2 completely separate companies and have been for going on 12 months. Some better research wouldn't go amiss"

"TalkTalk is NOTHING to do with the Carphone Warehouse, they are 2 different companies and have been since late 2009. Suggest you update this website. TalkTalk is a business of its own"
