The Best Car Rental Deals
by Editor
There’s a plethora of car companies to choose from when you want to hire a car, which is great for consumer choice but sometimes rather difficult to know where to start.
The first step to consider is the length of time that you want to hire the car. This may sound rather obvious but if you look around, you may find that companies have special deals on for specific timescales, or for certain periods of the year. Then you have to think about what size of car you need, and if you require additional products such as air conditioning, CD player or sat-nav.
Now that you have a fair idea of the kind of car that you are looking for, think about where you are picking up your car. If you are driving from your own home some companies such as Enterprise will deliver the car to your door, thus saving you making your way to the showroom. If you are picking up your car-hire from an airport, for convenience you may prefer to opt for one of the companies on site. It may be that you will not be dropping the car off at the same location as you picked it up. Companies charge different rates for multiple destinations, so be sure that you are not stung for this selection.
This is when you have to think carefully and read some of the smaller print. Companies will vary their rental conditions and so you have to work out which is the best value for your purposes. For example, some companies have a limit on the mileage so if you’re planning to drive the length and breadth of the country, this would not be an option for you, as you would incur additional charges.
Check out the companies’ insurance policies; the cost of the insurance and the excess that you would have to pay in the event of an accident as this can vary quite substantially from say £500 – £1,600. Quite often the insurance does not cover the windscreen or the tyres, so do be certain of what you are paying for and what you may have to pay for. Cheaper up-front car hire may not be the cheapest option in the event of an accident.
When you are travelling abroad, all the well-known names are based at major airports around the world. Generally, it is advisable to hire a car from a reputable company and it is reassuring to know that if you are on a two-week break on a Greek island, you can jump into your car knowing that you and your family will be safe. Of course, that is not to say that Greek island car hire firms are dodgy but if you are unsure that best advice is to ask your holiday rep who will steer you in the right direction (pun intended).
Generally, you can book your car hire when you book your holiday so if you choose this option you can relax knowing not only that you have a safe car but also that the hard work has been down for you and no precious moments of your holiday are wasted searching for a car to hire. If you are an independent traveller, quite often airlines have car hires as partners so you can enjoy a discount by flashing your boarding card at the selected car rental company.
In the UK, check out local firms instead of the well known global brands as I have seen local car rentals advertising fantastic prices because their car fleet is slightly older. So, if you don’t mind driving car that is five years old, you may save yourself a few pounds.
When you sit down to compare different car hire deals, one of your best options is to use Car Rentals UK which will give you a range of prices from different car rentals.
There’s a whole load of things to consider when you’re hiring a car – be clear about what you want and it will be quicker to find yourself the best deal.
