To Discount or not to Discount?

So you look over at your dates’ eyes. It’s been a fabulous first date experience. There have been tittering, shy half touches and you both realise that you have a secret obsession with Phil Collins, my goodness, could this have gone better? But then, at the end of the meal they reach for their money and, in addition to their plastic friend they pull out a discount voucher – it’s two for one at Pizza hut and they planned for it – turn off or turn on? What do you do?

Yeah – these guys are catches….

A recent survey for an online bank has found that on that first date 38% of daters would use a discount voucher on the first date. So if you’re on a first date, there’s a pretty high chance that this will happen. How would you feel? Would this prudent gesture get your heart racing faster or leave you cold?

My point of view:

Remember David Cameron? Yes, him. The man who has reminded us all that Credit Cards aren’t passes for free money any more, the man who said we all need to take responsibility for our actions? We have to enter a new world, a world of austerity that’s what he said before I got bored and turned over to the Only Way is Essex.

Well, I think he, our country’s leader allows us, the male daters to be a bit more prudent with our money. Sure, some people may think that such a thing as producing a discount voucher devalues the romance of the whole thing, but come on – we live in the real world here!

See – we all live in the real world!

If my date got huffy when I produced some voucher, they really do have different expectations about what constitutes a good time. They could be thinking Louis Vutton and I will be thinking TK Maxx. They should be happy and proud, just as having broad shoulders and a non-receding hairline makes me good genetics for creating children, so does having a sound head for figures – I’d be the person to look after funds and fun.

Yes, we will have fun, but it’ll be financially manageable; sort of like the German economy. With producing such an act I will demonstrate that there will be no excess but will be no tough times either. And in a time when petrol’s so expensive, that can’t be a bad thing, can it Sophie?

From the Female’s perspective, Sophie’s choice:

First dates are nerve wracking: what to wear, how to act, where to go. You’ll often be so nervous that in an effort to impress your date, you’ll spend the whole time embellishing aspects of your personality to appear more appealing. “Yeah, I love cars… especially the red ones. And Bob Dylan, of course, of course. My favourite album? Erm… you know… that good one.”

It’s hard to pick out which of the first impressions you’re getting are genuine. First dates only offer a few proper glimpses at your partner’s true colours as we’re all too busy making out we’re a whole lot funnier and more interesting in order to secure that all-important second date.

Is this what dating should be?

It takes a few dates until you relax enough to act naturally but there are a couple of traits that are hard to suppress, even if you’re trying hard to wow your date. For example, you will be able to tell almost immediately if your date is cheap.

I don’t judge a date by how much it costs but if, after a lovely dinner, my date was to pull out a discount voucher then that would immediately take the shine off things. I love a good bargain but discount dinners have their time and place and on a date is not one of them. It makes it less special; he didn’t pick this restaurant because he thought I’d like it, he chose it because my meal was free.

I’m not even one of those women who expect a man to pay for everything; I’d much rather go Dutch than be treated to a delicious BOGOF. “Don’t worry babe, this one’s on me,” he’ll proudly announce before presenting his carefully cut-out coupon. Cheers! Even worse, splitting the bill according to what we ate.

“Yeah so I had a tap water and the small Margherita pizza… and I have this voucher.

Here’s a fiver.”

You need this for dating – don’t you?

There’s nothing more off-putting than a miser. I don’t want to go to the same restaurant every week just because every second pizza is free before 6.

Discount vouchers are fantastic but when you’re dating please leave them at home. They dictate where and when you can go and make it seem like the cost is the most important thing. Be spontaneous and try something new. No one likes a cheap date!

So what do you think? To discount or not to discount?! Why not comment and let us know!

There are some deals are so good, they can’t just be put on our twitter feed and Facebook group. These deals have to be jumped on and siezed, and in this case, eaten.

In a rather special deal with Pizza Hut we’ve got some cheesetastic orders, you’re sure to chill out to our amazing deals. But enough of this punnery, lets get down to the deals:

First off, buy one pizza and get another free. For all those people when one isn’t enough (and we know it’s all of us!) simply put this PFECOL1EB code into Pizza Hut’s site and munch your way through two magnificent Pizza Hut pizzas.

However, what sort of deal would you get if you were in one of the many Huts? Well, once you’ve had that lovely pizza, you gonna want to have something sweet to finish off the meal – I’ve got an idea – Pizza Hut Ice Cream!!! Put in this code: PFECOL1EB and, providing you’ve spent £15, you’ll get free Chill Co Cold Desserest….brain freeze for everyone!!!
